We were jobshadowing from 26th May to 2nd June in Warsaw . Before starting it, we decided with Szkola Podstawowa the type of observing we would like to do. We agreed it would be based on active learning, project based learning, cooperative learning and group work. Then, we will share with the School Staff our observation and some of it will be transferred to our daily classes
As we were two days before Monday because of our flight , it was a good chance for us to get to know the Polish culture and traditions. We visited Sandomierzu and tasted delicious Polish food. On Sunday when we came back, we spent the afternoon in Warsaw and sightsaw the most important monuments of this city .
Our first class was with 12 year students grade ( our 1 dbh) an English class. The groups of 25 students were divided into two groups according to their level. We were in the high level and the students were dealing with idiomatic expressions.
They have textbooks but in this class, students were following a sheet previously prepared by the teacher.
In the second English class the students looked at some lapbooks created by the Erasmus group on democracy because they were going to create some new ones.
The students work projects in most of the subjects and use lapbook quite often as most of their creations are done by hand.
Third class Maths grade ( 10-11 years old) The class is related to fractions. The teacher uses both languages English and Polish. This is a group of 20 students. The students listened to the teacher and did the exercises. It is a teacher managed class. The class finished with a kahoot. This is an application most teachers do at the end of the classes in Poland.
A fourth class grade ( 9 years old) English. Each student came dressed with special clothes. One of the students was dressed with a typical Spanish dress. The aim of the activity is describing what they are wearing and the colour.
They finished the lesson with a cat walk. The students walked along the cat walk describing their clothes.
The fifth class is about English speaking countries
Brainstorming about which English speaking countries are . Then, the students presented some English speaking countries through PowerPoints.
One of the presentations was from a student who spends some months in the States every year about the differences between the American system of education and the Polish ones .
8th Grade ( 14 years) 3 dbh
English class. The class was about a presentation of a guide to Poland. The class was only 8 students as it was divided into two. The students prepared their presentations about different places in Poland in PowerPoint. They also prepared some exercises for their presentations crosswords, matching cards. A teeacher managed class.
Grade 5 12 years old class P.E
The P.E class was not different from our classes. The students did some warn up in order to be prepared to play a football match
My colleague participated in this class and played a short football match with all of them.
In the second class it was the same but the girls did the warn up and played a volleyball game.
Third class grade 5 ( 12 years old )
Another PE class . In this class they were doing acrobatics working in groups. The PE teacher was recording them and was next to them correcting all their movement.
This class was a good example of group working, in which all of them had to work at the same time for the same activity.
Fourth class English Grade 2
This was a primary English class. The students worked vocabulary on pizza ingredients.
It was quite fun for the children. They heard a song called " Pizza Party '' and all sang . Then they practiced some vocabulary related to the song . They finished the class with a project which consisted of drawing a pizza with ingredients.
Another group work class with 7 years old children ( grade 1)
The teacher showed the children pictures of the planets and they repeated their names.
Then she gave them the following sentence :
If I could invent a planet .....
The task consisted of drawing a planet and how they would like to be.
Physics 20 students grade 8
One of the students with the teacher's help was doing an experiment and the rest of the class paid attention to what she did. The teacher asked questions about the experiment and the students answered them. There was a big participation of the students and the class was very active . The class finished with a kahoot.
Performing History of the democracy
This performance was played when the Erasmus group students came to school in the second mobility. The students of grade 8th performed for all the students of the school who assisted . They showed the history of the democracy from the ancient Greek, women´s rights . It ended with a prostest from the Ucranian group.
Children from grade 2 Maths cllass
The students did a project in which they showed their creativity. The project consisted of creating a board game to practice sums, multiplications, divisions. Before starting the project, they created the rules for its use. It was active learning as the students had to decide the rules although we refer to little children.
Participation in Talent Show ( Got Talent)
All the school participated in this activity. As it was Children´s Day , some students showed their talent, singing, playing the violin and the piano. We were juries of it. At the end of the activity there was a competition and some prizes for the most talented students.
We observed
